Reducing Our Impact
DoorDash
reduce the carbon output per order, optimizing combined trips while incentivizing Dashers to use lower-emission vehicles. Last year, 100%of quick commerce deliveries in NYC were fulfilled via e-bikes. DoorDash is investing in improvements in logistics to increase efficiency and reduce emissions. In the United States, the company has enabled order batching to reduce the number of trips required to fulfill orders. DoorDash has also offered merchants and consumers in some areas access to more sustainable packaging alternatives, including reusable, compostable, and recyclable options.
Grubhub
optimizing heating and cooling systems in facilities around the world, and switching to electric vehicles. Grubhub joined Habits of Waste’s #CutOutCutlery initiative, meaning diners by default opt out of receiving plastic cutlery and napkins with orders unless specifically requested, and regularly promotes recycling practices among its users and restaurants. Grubhub is a founding member of the coalition supporting passage of the bipartisan Food Donation Improvement Act, which would prevent food waste and aid food insecure Americans by clarifying existing laws related to food donation. Additionally, in 2021, the Grubhub Community Fund (GCF) partnered with food rescue organizations, including Rescuing Leftover Cuisine and MEANS Database, to help reduce food waste and deliver meals to those in need. GCF donations to these organizations, including those from Grubhub diners through its Donate The Change program, totaled more than $2 million last year, with partnerships continuing in 2022.
Lyft
drivers using the platform have completed more than 600,000 rides in EVs across three cities. The program has saved more than 300,000 gallons of gas and over $800,000 in fuel expenses. As a leading bike and scooter operator in North America, Lyft is helping millions of people reduce their carbon footprint through Lyft-operated bikes, ebikes, and scooters. Lyft welcomed more than 2.4 million new bike and scooter riders last year alone, including over 600,000 who are now using Lyft micromobility options together with rideshare to get from Point A to Point B.
Uber
To further incentivize riders to choose zero- and low-emission travel options, Uber announced in April 2022 that its Uber Green option will be priced the same as Uber X, making the choice to go Green better for both the environment and their wallet. Uber Green is available in 100 major urban markets, making it the most widely available on-demand mobility solution in the world for no- or low-emission rides.
